Among the many characters in Daredevil, Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple has had the most appearances in the Marvel Netflix universe, popping up in Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and even in the mini-series crossover, The Defenders.
However, while Dawson has become more or less a staple among the many Marvel Netflix series, the actor's time as Claire might be coming to an end.
The actress just recently attended the 2018 Tribeca TV festival last Saturday, and during a panel with fans (via Indie Wire) to speak about her many experiences working on all the different Marvel TV series that she's been in, Dawson admitted that she isn't quite certain about her character's future.
According to the Men in Black II and Sin and the City star, she isn't sure whether or not she or her character, Claire, would ever return to the franchise. This uncertainty is what led the actress to input for her final scene in the second season of Luke Cage.
"I felt really grateful because Cheo Hodari Coker was the showrunner, and it was kind of looking like, at least for that season, who knows if I'll come back again?" Dawson told the crowd at the convention. "This was looking like it was going to be a big final scene for Claire, and it was really a culmination of three years and being on five different shows."
Fans who've seen the second season of Luke Cage know that Claire and Luke (Mike Colter) break up early on in the season, the two deciding to take a time out from their relationship after a fight turns aggressive. This fight is considered to be Claire's exit from the series, the character failing to appear for the rest of Luke Cage's second season.
Heartbreaking as it is for Claire's fans, this move was probably done to pave the way for the Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Luke's inevitable reunion – the two being a comic book canon couple.
Luke Cage season 2 is currently available for screening on Netflix.
