Lucasfilm has announced over Twitter that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be premiering in the United Kingdom early. The film will be showing on December 15th, a day before its United States premiere. You can see the tweet below:
The tweet was delivered on Sunday. It included an animated gif of a X-Wing crashing into a space station, while the X-wings around it manage to stay flying. The text reads "Stay on target! #RogueOne blasts into UK cinemas on December 15. All wings report in …"
The early release date is something that also happened last year with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While U.S. audiences got a December 18 premiere, the U.K. got it a day earlier on the 17th. This is because films in the U.K. typically premiere on Thursday, rather than Friday.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a prequel to Star Wars: A New Hope. It tells the tale of a band of rebels who steal the plans for the Death Star. The movie will star Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso. It's coming December 16th of this year for US audiences and on December 15th for UK audiences.
