Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Writer Working on Square Enix's Project Athia for PS5

While we didn't see a lot of it, fans were quite pleased that Square Enix revealed a new IP for the PlayStation 5, currently going through the working title Project Athia. The graphics are great and being able to control nature itself is something that hasn't been done with a lot of video games. As if the new IP wasn't a big enough surprise, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer Gary Whitta reveals that he led the writing team for this game.

On Twitter, Whitta discussed how he led an A-list team of writers from a number of different mediums to come up with this universe for Project Athia. The trailer was brief so it's hard to say how much lore will dominate this game but we are willing to see what creators get to do with these new platforms. I mean, they can't just show off the fact that there won't be any loading screens right?

Though interesting, Project Athia didn't really stand out when compared to the other games that were shown. Since it's a new IP, it didn't have the name value that Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon II: Forbidden West, or Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart had. It was also a really short video, allowing titles like Little Devil Inside and Sackboy: A Big Adventure to stand out more.

Project Athia will probably remain in development for a while longer. The fact that it still has Project in its name is a good indication of that and we don't mind; all games should take time and shouldn't have to be rushed just to make some executives happy. One thing we do know is that this will be a PlayStation 5-exclusive.
