Robert Downey Jr.’s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle Delayed by 8 Months

Robert Downey Jr. was set to end his tenure as Iron Man in next year's Avengers 4, and he was already set up to star in a film called The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle right after. The movie was originally intended for a release in May of next year, but news has come out that they've decided to delay the film to 2020.

According to The Wrap, The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle has moved from its original May 2019 release date to Jan. 17, 2020. The choice was apparently made to give the movie a better chance to perform in the overseas box office; hoping that the film attracts audiences right after the holiday season.

Though no one seems to be on the edge of their seats for something as frequently adapted as Hugh Lofting's Doctor Dolittle, the film does boast an impressive cast. Among RDJ, the movie will have the voice talents of Rami Malek, Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, John Cena, and Octavia Spencer. It's even worth noting that RDJ's fellow MCU hero Tom Holland is going to voicing a character as well.

As for live-action roles, Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen have been cast.

Seeing that RDJ has been the face of Marvel Studios for the past ten years, it's interesting that he would take on some more kid-friendly roles after his stint as Tony Stark. Then again, he might be back to playing his eccentric weirdos come the third Sherlock Holmes movie.

Catch The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle in theaters Jan. 17, 2020.
