Robert Downey Jr. Reportedly Returning For Multiple Marvel Projects

Casting or character comeback rumors are regularly part of every Marvel fan's life. Given their longing to always have their favorite stars on the screen, fans are always in the position to believe any hearsay or hope that they will turn out to be true. Robert Downey Jr., who’s known for his role as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, has yet to be seen again on the big screen. With his long-awaited return, the Sherlock Holmes star is reportedly returning for multiple MCU projects.

Downey Jr.'s Iron Man died in Avengers: Endgame, but with Marvel's time travel and multiple universes, there's always a way for the fan favorite superhero to return, despite the actor's previous statements to the contrary. “To me, starting up again is off the table. I feel like I’ve done all I could with that character,” he once said. “There would have to be a super compelling argument and a series of events that made it obvious. But the other thing is, I wanna do other stuff.”

However, Twitter-based industry insider @MyTimeToShineH recently gave the fans something to hold onto concerning Iron Man’s return. He wrote, “RDJ is back, baby (for Secret Wars for sure, and there's been some talks for a cameo in Armor Wars).” Other scoopers have backed the rumor, including Ember, who wrote: “I can corroborate the RDJ thing.” Check the tweet below:

Downey Jr. could make a return to the MCU with the 2026 film Secret Wars. The character may not have a future in the MCU after that, and the reappearance is expected to be just a cameo. According to reports, the movie may include a pre-recorded Tony Stark statement, similar to the one that ended Avengers: Endgame.

Whether the MCU star returns as Tony Stark in full armor, through a hologram, or in a flashback, fans would be delighted to receive it. Downey Jr. is one of the pillars of Marvel, and only he can play Iron Man. Despite being 42 months away, Secret Wars is expected to be the biggest movie of the franchise.
