It's been three years since Robert Downey Jr. ended his tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it's still a tough pill to swallow for a lot of fans. Now, some folks have been under the impression that Downey has left the world of acting but that's actually not the case. After venturing into the world of producing, working on the DC series Sweet Tooth on Netflix, the Hollywood icon is gearing up for his acting return in one of Christopher Nolan's upcoming films.
RDJ will star in the biographical film titled Oppenheimer which is based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning book American Prometheus. The project features a star-studded ensemble with Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Rami Malek, and Florence Pugh all joining the Iron Man actor.
Just this week, photos from the set of the film began surfacing online offering our first official look at some of the cast, including Robert himself who looks almost unrecognizable with his aged look. On a side note, this is what Tony Stark would've probably looked like if he didn't die in Endgame. Check it out here.

There's been a lot of talk about RDJ potentially making his way back to the MCU and with the billion-dollar franchise exploring the equally wondrous and convoluted multiverse, Tony Stark's return just became a huge possibility. I'm not sure though if Downey would be interested in coming back, especially after the grand sendoff Marvel did for Iron Man but I guess we can never say never.
Oppenheimer is currently slated for a July 21, 2023 release.
