There was no doubt that Spider-Man: No Way Home raised the stakes for Tom Holland's version of the web-slinger so it was only natural for him to get some back-up from the multiverse, no less. Now, while Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's respective returns were ginormous, some fans were actually hoping to see Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark aka Iron Man aid Peter on arguably his toughest challenge to date but obviously, it didn't happen in the film.

Turns out, despite RDJ's potential comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe being deemed as a major event, Spider-Man: No Way Home writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommer had no plans to include Iron Man in the fold. Appearing on an episode of The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith, co-screenwriter Chris McKenna said that Far From Home pretty much gave Peter the closure he needed and Tony reemerging in No Way Home wouldn't help the character escape his mentor's shadow.

McKenna explains: "Honestly, that's like a non-starter in the halls of Marvel, at least in our experience. They just don't really like constantly invoking... I mean, Tony cast such a large shadow even after Endgame, which we dealt with in Far From Home. But I think everyone felt like we can't just keep on going to the Tony well. And I think what we started realizing as we were writing this is that he wasn't the Uncle Ben. I mean, he was a father figure. There was a bond between them. In Endgame he even has a photo of Peter and it seems to be the final moral impetus to have him risk everything to try to reset the balance of the universe."

As much as Tony and Peter reuniting in No Way Home would have been a heartwarming moment, the film's writers definitely the right call. The culmination of the Homecoming trilogy was all about Parker being his own man and they finally achieved that.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is still shattering box office records worldwide.
