With his fate sealed in Avengers: Endgame, Robert Downey Jr.'s days as Iron Man has come to an end. It's best not to hold out hope for the character's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the actor himself reiterating that he's finished with Tony Stark.

In a recent appearance on the SmartLess podcast, Downey says "that's all done," when asked about how he balances his Marvel work and family time following Iron Man's death in Endgame.

With fans that have come to love his portrayal of the Marvel character, there's no doubt that this comes as unfortunate news. That being said, Downey's comment refers to his commitments with filming Marvel movies. This doesn't necessarily mean that his time as Tony Stark onscreen has come to an end, with future MCU projects able to potentially bring back the character through flashback clips, cameos, or maybe even resurrections.

Of course, the actor's comment doesn't come as a surprise but never say never. There have been rumors that previously surfaced, suggesting that Downey filmed a cameo forBlack Widow. There were even rumblings online about the actor reprising his role for the upcoming animated Disney+ series, What If…?

The MCU continues with Black Widow, currently set for release on November 6.
