This is a sad day for Riverdale and 90210 fans. News has just dropped that Luke Perry, who plays Archie's father Fred Andrews on the show, has passed away.

According to BBC News, Perry had died less than a week after suffering a massive stroke. He was taken to a hospital last Wednesday in Los Angeles while shooting scenes for Riverdale. We don't have any more specific news than that, but he was said to have died surrounded by family and friends.

Perry's publicist Arnold Robinson had said in a statement:

"The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning."

The Riverdale writers room also posted this on Twitter:

As of now, the status of Perry's character Fred is still alive. With eight more episodes to go, the writers will have to scramble and think of an explanation of how to write Fred off the show. We don't know if they'll require a short hiatus for the writers to come up with something, but hopefully they pay tribute to Perry sooner rather than later.

Besides playing Fred Andrews, Perry was best known for his role as Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills, 90210. He's also had several guest stints in shows like Community and Will and Grace, plus a role in The Fifth Element. Perry's final movie will be that of Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood which will come out this July.
