Rival Studios Like Warner Brothers Have Approached James Gunn After Disney Firing

Disney might not be thinking of rehiring director James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 despite all the support that he's received from fans, Hollywood colleagues and the cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy, however, it seems like other studios are very much interested in working with the filmmaker.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources say that while Gunn is not allowed to entertain other offers while negotiating his exit with Disney, the director has been approached by quite a number of top producers and executives from major studios with open film projects.

"I'd work with him in a heartbeat," one senior executive at a rival studio told the publication.

However, rival studios have been itching to approach Gunn while waiting to see what comes out of the exit negotiations. Major players in the Hollywood industry like Warner Brothers are said to be interested in Gunn's services, and many are waiting to approach the director after negotiations are completed.

"I've been advised that we can't bring anything to him until the Disney matter is 100 percent resolved," another studio executive said.

Marvel is also interested in bringing back Gunn, though THR says the studio is considering the director for another film in the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and not for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Of course, considering all the great things that Gunn has done for Marvel, it's no surprise that other studios are flocking towards the director, hoping that they'll be able to nab the filmmaker for their other projects. Sure, rival studios might face some backlash from Gunn's critics, however, studios can't turn away from the possibility of grabbing an A-list director that simply became a victim of an alt-right smear campaign. Hopefully, if Gunn doesn't find himself rehired by Marvel, the director finds a home somewhere else – possibly in the DCEU, perhaps. Let's just wait and see.
