The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon have a lot in common, so it's not surprising to watch fans compare the two spinoffs with each other's flagship franchises.

Considering that both universes explore the elements of fantasy and come from original novels, what's particularly comparable is how The Rings of Power has "better storytelling than Game of Thrones."

According to some fans, while Game of Thrones dwells in the political sense of its fantastical world, The Rings of Power explores more "actual magic" through "forest adventures" and "love and friendship."

However, The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon have different central stories.

While the former's characters are filled with elves and Hobbits, the latter's plot utilizes Targaryens and dragons to set their legacy on the Iron Throne.

Additionally, some may be forgetting that Lord of the Rings has political explorations of its own.

The fact that Sauron is on the verge of completing the nineteen rings at his bidding of disguising under Halbrand and Annatar the Lord of Gifts is tangled with how a character's status affects their relationship in Middle-Earth.

Then again, this comparison may also have something to do with two factors: Game of Thrones' disastrous season 8 ending and the recent dispute between George R.R. Martin and HBO's changes to House of the Dragon plotlines.

See, while House of the Dragon is based on Martin's novel, Fire & Blood, HBO showrunners stated that they are "required to make difficult choices" regarding which story and characters will be kept in the show and vice versa.

This did not bode well with Martin's philosophy that the stories still come from his published creations.

Although The Rings of Power has been facing controversies since its debut, the second season has improved in terms of better reception from fans, which could lead to more seasons soon.
