To mark the release of Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2, Hominis released a series of interviews with the series’ cast, including one with Rie Takahashi, the voice of Sumi Sakurasawa.
In the interview, Takahashi revealed her thoughts on Sumi’s new role, along with the similarities that they share.

While considered one of the four main girls in the show, Sumi appeared late into the series’ first season. Coupled with the fact that she has a timid personality, Sumi has the least presence among the main characters in the season.
But in Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2, Sumi will play a bigger role which excited Takahashi. In the interview, Takahashi mentioned how she found that Sumi was more active and more motivated in the second season.
While Sumi was full of self-doubt in her season 1 appearance, Takahashi mentioned that while reading the season 2 script, she was excited by Sumi’s development.
In the first season, it was revealed that Sumi became a rental girlfriend to become more outgoing as she is an extremely shy person. Takahashi mentioned in the interview that she admires this determination of Sumi.
Takahashi also revealed that she shares a key similarity with Sumi. While Sumi may not talk much, she has a lot of monologues as she tends to overthink most scenarios. It turns out that Takahashi tends to do this as well in person.
Along with her thoughts on Sumi, Takahashi shared her favorite moment from the first season which is Chizuru and Mami’s confrontation sequence from the karaoke to the pedestrian footbridge.
Rent-A-Girlfriend is an anime series animated by TMS Entertainment and is based on the manga series of the same name by Reiji Miyajima.
The series follows Kazuya Kinoshita as he hires a rental girlfriend named Chizuru Mizuhara to get over his ex. Though Kazuya develops feelings for Chizuru in the process.
Season 1 of the anime aired from July to September 2020. Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 is ongoing, with the first episode airing on July 3.
