Ridley Scott Says He's 'Too Dangerous' For Star Wars

Ridley Scott is a pretty well-known director. While his recent films have been hit-and-miss, there is no doubt that he's a talented man who has worked on a number of hits. Considering his work on the Alien franchise, it would be easy to assume that the director has been offered a chance to leave his mark on Star Wars.

Turns out that hasn't happened and the director thinks it never will since he considers himself "too dangerous" for the franchise.

During an interview with Vulture, he clarified his "too dangerous" statement. He feels that the studio wants to be in control when it comes to making Star Wars films, only hiring people who'll willingly do what's needed.

"Because I know what I'm doing. [Laughs.] I think they like to be in control, and I like to be in control myself. When you get a guy who's done a low-budget movie and you suddenly give him $180 million, it makes no sense whatsoever. It's fuckin' stupid."

Considering how the productions of Rogue One and Solo have gone, he isn't completely wrong. Chris Miller and Phil Lord were originally the directors for Solo before the studio replaced them with Ron Howard. The studio even replaced the director of Episode IX with J.J. Abrams.

That being said, Disney has also given Rian Johnson significant control over the next Star Wars trilogy. He also made a number of significant changes to the Star Wars formula with The Last Jedi, which is easily the most polarizing film in the franchise. Disney's track record with Star Wars directors is a bit spotty but giving Johnson this much creative control shows the people in the company are willing to make a few risks here and there.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now showing in theaters. Ridley Scott's All The Money in The World is in cinemas as well.
