Rian Johnson Might Direct Another Movie Before His Star Wars Trilogy

Star Wars fans might be anticipating the next set of Star Wars films after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but Disney is planning to give the franchise a short breather after Lucasfilm completes its sequel trilogy. With the studio still working on the new timeline of the franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson believes that he may have a bit of time left to work on his own project before returning to the galaxy far, far away to begin directing his new Star Wars trilogy.

Speaking in an interview with the Evening Standard, controversial director Rian Johnson was asked when fans could expect him to begin work on his new set of Star Wars films. While fans might be eager to know about the future of the Star Wars franchise after Episode IX, it seems like Lucasfilm is going to take its time to take the franchise into a new direction.

"The truth is they're still figuring out their schedule, their game plan, so if it's possible for me to squeeze in another film before or while working on that, I will," Johnson told the publication.

Johnson seems to be enjoying his little Star Wars break. The filmmaker's most recent project, black comedy-mystery movie Knives Out, just recently made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, receiving an approval rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. We're hoping that Johnson's projects get better and better, instilling more hope in the Star Wars fanbase.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
