Return to the UC with First Teaser Trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway

With Mobile Suit Gundam celebrating 40 years of the franchise, Sunrise is set to go big with their latest installment in the Gundam series. Check out the first teaser for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway.

Just in case you didn't know, this is actually an adaptation of the novel series by Yoshiyuki Tomino called Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash; the books came out after the release of Char's Counterattack back in 1989, and as the trailer suggests, it was considered impossible to adapt into a series until now.

As for the plot, the story is said to take place 12 years after the Second Neo Zeon War and focuses on the story of Bright Noa's son, Hathaway Noa. With the original series painting Zeon as the villains of the franchise, this story seeks to twist the narrative around, and this time we have a protagonist who is going up against the corrupt Earth Federation.

The books are actually going to be adapted into three parts with Hathaway being the first installment. Back when the adaptation was officially announced, Hathaway's Flash author Tomino had this to say (via animenewsnetwork):

"Thirty years after I wrote those novels, they are finally being adapted into film. As the author, I am so happy… The real world hasn't progressed, and may even have regressed. Because of all the Gundam fans who gave this story the chance to reemerge, its themes can pierce through society today."

Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway is set to come out July 23 later this year.
