Live-Action Gundam Film Hires Writer Brian K. Vaughan

New York Times bestselling author and famed comic book creator Brian K. Vaughan has been hired to pen the script for Gundam, the live-action adaptation of the popular anime mecha and science fiction franchise created by Sunrise, Deadline reports.

Legendary Entertainment is co-producing the film with Sunrise, and Vaughan, who's best known for his comic book series Y: The Last Man, Runaways, and Ex Machina, will also executive produce the film.

The 1979 anime series was directed and created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and next month marks the 40th anniversary of the series. Sunrise President Yasuo Miyakawa previously said that Sunrise has maintained almost all of the control over the movie adaptation and that control was required for Sunrise to agree to the project. Miyakawa said that Sunrise's collaborative relationship with Legendary is a genuine one. "Sunrise movie, nor a legendary movie, it will be a real collaboration," he explained.

With Vaughan penning the script for the live-action Gundam and Sunrise in control of the project with Legendary, it looks like fans will have a lot of exciting things to look forward to for the film.
