Resident Evil Reboot is Looking Good with Director & Writer Announcements

Reboots are always a touchy subject to get into—more so when the topic being discussed is a franchise that has had a pretty long line of movies despite lukewarm responses.

This is probably why some are wondering how Resident Evil: The Final Chapter still wasn't the last one in the franchise, thanks to the confirmation that a reboot will happen. But a new report from Deadline may give us quite a bit more confidence, especially now that we know who is onboard as the director and writer for the reboot.

James Wan is now reportedly onboard to produce the first movie—in case you didn't know, there are six films slated for reboot. What's more, he'll be joined by Greg Russo as scriptwriter.

Even if you're not a horror fan, you've probably heard of Wan before—the hype for Aquaman and how awesome it's gearing up to be is one avenue. For others, you'd probably be more familiar with the likes of Saw, Lights Out, and The Conjuring.

As for Russo, he's had experience in penning scripts based on videogames, what with a Mortal Kombat film reboot coming along. If there's anything that Milla Jovovich fans may feel slighted about, it's that she won't be returning as Alice, since there will be a new cast involved.

Resident Evil will still be under Constantin Films. The studio has yet to announce any details on release dates and casting.
