Reactions To X-Men: Dark Phoenix’s Trailer Have Been Disappointing

There was so much hype building up over X-Men: Dark Phoenix, but now that the trailer's out online, it seems like the ship is turning a bit sideways with fans expressing disappointment in the recently released video.

The new trailer for Dark Phoenix gave fans an idea about what to expect from Simon Kinberg's debut into the X-Men franchise – following its comic book source material, the film features Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and her transformation into the Dark Phoenix.

Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and the rest of the team will try to turn things around – but things aren't going to be easy when Jean spirals out of control.

Read more about Dark Phoenix in its synopsis down here:

"In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean's soul but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy."

While some fans are pretty glad that Dark Phoenix is trying to stick to the Phoenix Saga in the comics, others were pretty troubled by a trailer that they describe as both bland, banal and a tad bit, should we say it, boring.

Here are some of the reactions that fans have been posting online:

Though there are some positive tweets here and there, the general consensus regarding Dark Phoenix's trailer is that the video has been nothing but disappointing. There were such high hopes for Dark Phoenix but the trailer failed to generate excitement for the X-Men fanbase.

Hopefully, Fox turns things around. It's a long way to go to the film's release date – Fox has a lot of time to make up for the trailer.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to premiere on February 14, 2019.
