Queen Elizabeth has her own timeline. When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey aired, the late monarch didn't rush to respond to the Sussexes' allegations.

Queen Elizabeth Decided To 'Sleep On' Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's Allegation In Their Oprah Interview

The Times royal correspondent Valentine Low talked about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's controversial tell-all with Oprah Winfrey in his new book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown. Prince Harry and Markle made several allegations, including racism and the issue of security against the royal family.

The Palace did not immediately release the statement to address the Sussexes' statements. Apparently, it was the Queen's decision to "sleep on" the issue.

"There had been so many allegations made by the couple—about racism, about security, about Meghan's mental health—that it was hard to know where to start," wrote Low, InStyle reported. "The private secretaries and communications secretaries had long debates about how to deal with the issue, especially what one of them awkwardly called 'the R word.'" By 2 p.m. the day after the interview aired in the United States, staffers had a statement ready, but the Palace still chose to stay quiet."

"And then precisely nothing happened," Low continued. "The Palace stayed completely silent because the Queen decided that she wanted to sleep on it. She was not going to be rushed into saying anything precipitate. It was a reminder that, while the courtiers might do all the groundwork, the final decisions are made by the royal family."

The next day, Buckingham Palace released a statement before 5:30 p.m.

How Did Queen Elizabeth Respond To Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Allegation

Her Majesty released a statement to address Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's accusations against the family. In their interview, both said they didn't receive the support and help they expected from the royal family.

They also claimed that a member of the royal family raised concerns about their unborn child's skin color.

"The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning," the Palace said in a statement.
