Meghan Markle allegedly twisted the story about the royal's comment on her unborn child's complexion. An unnamed source said the remarks were not meant to be taken seriously, and it has been taken out of context, even sparking racist allegations toward the royal household.

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry's Claims In Oprah Interview 'Most Damaging' To Royal Family

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. For royal fans, the debacle has remained, with royal author Robert Jobson saying the royal couple's claims in the two-hour-long interview were "without doubt the most damaging" to the royal family, he said Daily Star reported.

In the interview, Markle told Oprah Winfrey, a member of the royal family, raised concerns about her unborn child's complexion. The statement raised eyebrows, with many calling the royals racist.

The William at 40: The Making of a Modern Monarch author added that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle "seriously considered" dropping the name of the royal member who made the alleged racist remark. However, they decided not to reveal the name as it would be very damaging to them. A palace insider told Jobson the identity of the royal and said that things were taken out of context.

"It was not meant to be taken seriously and the entire situation has been taken out of context," the anonymous source said. "What followed and the way in which it has been twisted is frankly unfair and appalling."

What Did Meghan Markle Say, And How Did The Royal Family Respond?

During Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey for the CBS special, the royal couple shared a concerning thing. One member of the royal family allegedly came to Prince Harry when Markle was still pregnant with Archie and raised "concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born," Time reported.

Markle identifies herself as biracial. When the host pressed on for more details, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex declined to give specifics.

"That conversation, I am never going to share," Prince Harry said. "At the time, it was awkward, I was a bit shocked."

Buckingham Palace issued a statement about the racist comment to address the matter.

"The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan, the palace said per Daily Star. "The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members."

Prince William also addressed the issue when asked about it in one royal engagement. The royal family "is very much not racist," the Duke of Cambridge said, per BBC.
