PSY pledged to drop a Gangnam Style 2.0 this year.

Before BTS reached international stardom, it was PSY who was able to have an unlimited global reach following the release of his hit song, Gangnam Style. The same song became the first video on YouTube to reach a billion mark.

With that, he earned the title of King of YouTube, and he made that possible by creating humorous videos and catchy song lyrics.

Although Gangnam Style is now the 11th most viewed video on the video streaming platform, the rapper recently promised to break his own records with a new song this year.

PSY Coming Back After 5 Years

On Tuesday, PSY used all his platforms to announce his new album, which he plans to release on April 29 at 6:00 p.m. KST.

The over 30-second clip features a video taken from his concerts on Dec. 24, 2013, where he promised fans to release the next Gangnam Style this year.

“To be honest, I produced ‘Champion’ in 2002, and it took me exactly ten years to produce a song that is more sensational than that. ‘Gangnam Style’ was released in 2012. I guess what I’m trying to say is that perhaps the next time you’ll meet a song like ‘Gangnam Style’ will be in 2022,” he said in the clip.

The upcoming project will follow his 2017 project, PSY 8th 4X2=8 and will serve as his first comeback in five years.

As of press time, he calls his upcoming album as PST 9th. No other information is currently available.

PSY Should Break These Records Made By Gangnam Style

Since PSY himself declared that his 2022 song would be greater than Gangnam Style, many fans are expecting that his new album would surpass the hit song’s records.

It debuted at number one on Gaon Chart and immediately went viral a month after its release. Gangnam Style then conquered the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number 2. Before 2012 ended, the song ranked first in more than 30 countries’ music charts.

In addition, the Guinness World Records recognized it as the most liked video on YouTube at that time. Former British Prime Minister David Cameron, then-president Barack Obama, and former secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon applauded the song and called it a “force for world peace” and “driver of Korean Wave.”
