Princess Bride Star Cary Elwes Hospitalized for Rattlesnake Bite

Cary Elwes has been rushed to the hospital after he was bitten by a rattlesnake. The Princess Bride star reportedly suffered from a life-threatening bite outside of his own home.

TMZ reports that Cary Elwes was bitten by a rattlesnake near his home in Malibu, California. The Saw star needed to be airlifted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on Saturday. It is suggested that the wound was life-threatening but Elwes is expected to make a full recovery with the right treatment.

Since then, Cary Elwes has confirmed that he is doing well after being rushed to the hospital. Elwes even made an awesome Princess Bride reference as he assured his fans that he is recovering from the accident.

"Bit not by a ROUS but a rattlesnake. Grateful to the staff of Malibu Urgent Care, LA County Fire Dept. and the staff and medical professionals at @UCLAHealth for their great care. Am recovering well thanks to all these wonderful folks," Elwes wrote.

For those who haven't seen the film or read the late William Goldman's novel The Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure, The "Good Parts" Version, ROUS are Rodents Of Unusual Size. These giant rat-like rodents live in the Fire Swamp and attacked Westley and Buttercup when they tried to escape through the swamp.

We're glad to know that Cary Elwes is feeling well enough to joke about his accident and we're hoping that he recovers soon.

Back in 2020, Cary Elwes reunited with the cast of The Princess Bride including Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Christopher Guest, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, and Carol Kane. The virtual live dramatic reading of the film's script was a fundraising event in support Wisconsin Democrats. The reunion managed to raise $4.25 million and was received widely positive reviews.
