Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children, Archie and Lilibet have not received royal titles, and it's unclear if they will ever get one. After all, the decision now lies entirely on King Charles.

Archie Was Supposed To Inherit The Title Of Earl Of Dumbarton, But Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Refused?

But after Archie was born, there were reports claiming that he was entitled to be styled as the Earl of Dumbarton since this is a subsidiary of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's official titles as the Earl and Countess of Dumbarton and the Baron and Baroness of Kilkeel.

However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly refused Archie's royal title because it contained the word "dumb."

"They didn't like the idea of Archie being called the Earl of Dumbarton because it began with the word 'dumb' [and] they were worried about how that might look," a source told The Telegraph.

A second source claimed that Prince Harry and Markle were both bothered by the royal title.

Will Archie, Lilibet Get Royal Titles From King Charles?

As of late, it's unclear if Archie and Lilibet will ever inherit royal titles. And it's also unclear if Prince Harry and Markle would allow their kids to have royal titles if King Charles offers to give them one.

But according to royal author Tom Bower, King Charles isn't in a rush to make a decision regarding Archie and Lilibet's royal titles. In fact, the monarch could be withholding his decision until after Prince Harry's memoir Spare is released in January.

"This book is really a make or break. I imagine that King Charles has been warned that any retaliation won't be pretty. All that King Charles can really do is withhold the titles for his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet. Ultimately, I suppose, he could take away Harry and Meghan's titles as well, but that's pretty drastic. I don't know what else he can do. If it is as bad as I think it is, then Harry and Meghan have gone fully rogue," he told The Sun.

Royal Editor Claims Delays In Giving Archie, Lilibet Royal Titles Are Heightening Tensions

Royal editor Roya Nikkhah said that the delay is heightening tensions between King Charles and the Sussexes.

Prince Harry and Markle are reportedly "understood to fear the King may strip Archie and Lilibet of their titles after his reluctance immediately to recognize their elevated status after the Queen's death. I'm told that that is a very clear signal from the King. He's willing to give those titles, but it comes with a caveat, and that caveat is trust, she said (via Marie Claire).
