Prince Charles reportedly got emotional when he met some of the Ukrainian refugees. The Prince of Wales and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, were allegedly moved to tears as he chatted and listened to their heartbreaking stories when they left their country behind amid the Russian invasion.
Prince Charles and Camilla Allegedly Cried During His Meeting With The Refugees From Ukraine
The Prince of Wales headed to west London and met the refugees at the Holdy Trinity Brompton Church (HTP) on Wednesday. The refugees from Ukraine were forced to leave their home country and seek safety abroad amid the Russian invasion in the country.
Prince Charles met Ukrainian Andriy Kopylash and his daughter Veronika who were both involved in the Alpha Christianity program at HTB.
Kopylash told the heir apparent that they left Ukraine before Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion. However, his daughter was stuck in Kyiv, leaving her dad fearing for Veronika's life. They were eventually able to leave the country by boarding the last plane to Italy the night before the Russian forces launched the attack.
"We have had wonderful support from the community here," she said as quoted by Express.
Recalling about her meeting with Prince Charles, Kopylash said she was very impressed with the heir apparent.
"He was very open and there were tears in his eyes," she said. "I was really impressed by him. It was very nice to meet Prince Charles. He was really open and was really informed about the situation."
Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, visited Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in London earlier. The future king shared that he and his wife had been moved by the reports of the "extraordinary bravery, generosity and fortitude of the Ukrainian community in the face of such truly terrible aggression," the outlet noted.
Camilla was reportedly seen crying multiple times while speaking to the people at the cathedral. The Prince of Wales condemned the aggression.
Prince Charles Called Russian Invasion Of Ukraine A 'Brutal Aggression'
Last week, the Prince of Wales released a statement airing support to Ukraine and condemning Russia, calling the invasion a "brutal aggression."
When Prince Charles visited the Southend-on-Sea earlier this month to celebrate its new city status, an honor given by Queen Elizabeth II following the killing of its MP Sir David Amess, Prince William's father compared the conflict in Ukraine to what happened to Sir David who was murdered on Oct. 15, 2021, as he stood for democracy and freedom. The British Conservative politician was stabbed multiple times and died at the scene in what was believed to be a premeditated attack.
