Prince Charles should give way to his son, Prince William, according to some respondents in a poll. The poll was created after a discussion about a potential joint reign between the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge.

Should Prince Charles Step Aside And Let Son Prince William Take Over The Throne After Queen Elizabeth?

Express ran a poll on Friday asking its readers, "Should Charles and William conduct a joint reign?" A total of 1,668 people joined the survey, and the majority, 54%, agreed that the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge should conduct a joint reign after Queen Elizabeth.

Meanwhile, 44% disagreed and chose "no." Another 2% were undecided.

Dozens of netizens also shared their thoughts about the future of the royal family after the current British monarch, and some wanted to skip Prince Charles. There are even netizens who called him to step aside and give way to Prince William.

"No. Charles should step aside for William," one respondent named Gandalf The Grey commented, Express noted. Another user, Rick Smith, added, "No, Charles should step aside for the sake of the monarchy."

Meanwhile, some sided with Prince Charles because they knew that he had prepared all his life for the role. They also didn't think that a joint reign would be feasible.

"No, Prince Charles and Prince William have different styles. Let William support Charles for now until his turn. Prince William is not in a hurry to take the crown," user petitprintemps wrote. User JIMHO shared the same opinion, writing, "I think William would do a great job now. But first, it is Charles's time, he has been heir in waiting a very long time."

"No. The succession doesn't work like that. This wokeism needs to be stopped," a third person wrote.

"It is Charles's right to reign next, leave it at that," a fourth respondent added.

Prince Charles And Prince William Should Do A Joint Reign?

There is no doubt that Prince William is more popular than his father, even if the public has already warmed up to the Prince of Wales and Duchess Camilla. For that reason, Daily Mail's Diary Editor Richard Eden claimed that it would be safer for the future of the firm for the father and son to make a "joint reign."

"The public just isn't very interested in Charles and Camilla and that is a problem," Eden told Palace Confidential on MailPlus. "For an institution that relies on the public's support, I think that’s a genuine problem and why we will see a sort of joint reign with William and Catherine."

However, despite Eden's opinion, royal expert Jennie Bond doesn't think it's possible. She said earlier this year that there is "no chance" Prince William will reign and become king while Prince Charles is present, Express reported. She added that the Prince of Wales is the "best-trained monarch we've ever had," and he "wants the top job."
