Pokemon GO might be the butt of many jokes on the internet but the mobile game is still a huge hit, continuing to make millions for Niantic two years in. In those two years, we've seen Pokemon from Gen 2 and Gen 3 join in on the mobile fun, with pretty much everyone wondering when the next generation of monsters would be coming. Turns out that will be very soon as the Pokemon from Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum are officially coming to GO.
An announcement on the official Pokemon website has confirmed that we will indeed be seeing these monsters in the mobile game. No official date was given unfortunately but it's good to know that these fan-favorite creatures will be coming to the mobile game. Most of us expected to see them sometime in 2019, so this is a nice surprise.
Niantic had previously hinted at their arrival with their two-year anniversary banner, which had Chimchar, Piplup, and Turtwig in the promotional art. At the time, Niantic wouldn't say when these critters would be coming to mobile devices but it seems like sometime this year is a safe bet, thanks to the trailer above.
Knowing Niantic, they probably won't release the full roster right away. Expect the first 50 or so monsters to come to the game, with more to come via future updates. It's definitely a good strategy that will keep players coming back.
Fans have had mixed thoughts about Pokemon's fourth generation, with some loving these new designs while others felt that the games themselves failed to do anything new. Black and White would provide a better change a few years later but Diamond and Pearl weren't failures when it came to critical reception or sales; they just weren't too innovative.
Pokemon GO is available now on iOS and Android devices. Expect an announcement for Gen 4 soon.
