Pirates of the Caribbean Reboot Eyes Guardians of the Galaxy's Karen Gillan for Leading Role

With all of the complications surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, many thought that the original Jack Sparrow would make a comeback and somehow convince Disney to not reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Well, that day is not today as reports are coming in about this reboot and how Disney is eyeing Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan to fill the lead role.

Because this is Gillan, who is a redhead as many fans know, Disinsider is reporting that she could end up being popular character Redd, who has been prominent in the Disneyland attraction of the same name. That's all just speculation of course but it wouldn't be a bad way to reboot this franchise or leave it open for a possible Jack Sparrow return, assuming one is ever made, of course.

These are just reports of course but it would be interesting to see how this goes. While its a little too predictable to reboot something with a woman in the current Hollywood climate, we're sure most people won't mind since there aren't a lot of pirate movies that star women in the lead. I mean, there's Cutthroat Island but no one talks about that and we will continue not talking about it.

No expected release date for Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean reboot has been mentioned, though that probably won't come for a while. It seems like Disney is just ready to wash their hands of anything Johnny Depp-related, which is kinda sad.
