It's officially happening! Disney has just greenlighted the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series which is set to air on its streaming service. So it's no surprise that fans are continuing with their campaign to get Logan Lerman cast as Poseidon in the highly anticipated reboot!
Variety reports that the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series has been picked up by Disney. The new show will be based on the books by Rick Riordan, who will also write the pilot with Jon Steinberg. James Bobin is confirmed to direct the first episode and all three will serve as executive producers along with Dan Shotz, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, and Jim Rowe. Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg will executive produce as well.
Casting is currently underway for the Percy Jackson reboot and although there hasn't been a lot of fancasting on the young main characters, fans are convinced there is only one true choice for Percy's father. People are once again calling on Disney to cast Logan Lerman as Poseidon in the upcoming show.
Logan Lerman played the demi-god in 2010's Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and its sequel Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters. Although Lerman was expected to return for a third film, the sequel was never produced. Almost 11 years later, fans believe that he is now the perfect age to play Percy's estranged father Poseidon. Kevin McKidd portrayed the god of the seas in the first movie.
For now, Disney has not yet made an announcement about the cast of the series adaptation. However, there is a good chance we will be getting updates in the next weeks. It is even possible that the House of Mouse will consider Lerman for the role. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
