A few days ago, we learned about a major shakeup that happened in one of the Star Wars movie projects that are in development at Lucasfilm as it was reported that Damon Lindelof and his co-writer Justin Britt-Gibson departed as the writers while Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains attached as the director.
Since then, there have been questions about the fate of the project and whether a replacement has been found to continue writing the film as it is intended to be the next movie that Lucasfilm will spearhead in the Star Wars franchise.
Now, it looks like the studio has found the duo's replacement as Variety has confirmed that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is taking over the writing duty in Lindelof's Star Wars movie project. He will be working with Obaid-Chinoy, who is still directing the feature.
They also reported that more details regarding the project are expected to announce during the Star Wars Celebration event in London next month with the possibility that the title will finally be unveiled as well.
Besides creating the hit British series Peaky Blinders, Knight is also known for writing films such as Allied, The Girl in the Spider's Web, Eastern Promises, Spencer, and Serenity (which he also directed). He also created the hit Apple TV+ series See starring Jason Momoa.
The Obaid-Chinoy project is one of the Star Wars feature films that are still in active development at Lucasfilm and this is the one that is expected to move forward soon. The others are the Taika Waititi project, which he may also star in, and the Shawn Levy project, which is still in early development.
It is good to hear that Lucasfilm has found Lindelof's replacement since it is an indication that they are still committed to doing the project and Knight is certainly a talented writer who has a decent track record. Hopefully, he won't have the same fate as Lindelof and will remain on the project until the finish line.
