Despite a stagnant movie slate, Lucasfilm is pretty determined to bring Star Wars back to the big screen but it seems like the franchise's efforts to launch a slew of new movies have fallen under a curse. Just recently, it was reported that two major projects — Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron and Kevin Feige's untitled film were no longer in the works. Now, it appears that Damon Lindelof's Star Wars movie is also in limbo, at least according to a new report.

Above the Line reports that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson have abandoned the upcoming film which is set to set to usher in a new era for the franchise. Key details about their departure have not been disclosed yet but the outlet says that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to direct the film.

Lindelof and Britt-Gibson's surprising exodus was already foreshadowed last week when the Watchmen screenwriter hinted during an interview at SXSW that the project might not be for him to oversee. He told SlashFilm: "I will just say, that for reasons that I can't get into on this Sunday morning, on this day, the degree of difficulty is extremely, extremely, extremely high. If it can't be great, it shouldn't exist."

As it stands, the only Star Wars films that are in active development are Taika Waititi's project, as well as Shawn Levy's mystery movie. We still can't wrap our heads around Lindelof's decision to leave the project because judging by the reports that have previously circulated, it seemed like the film's production had no issues whatsoever.

The post-sequel trilogy Star Wars film is reportedly eyeing a December 2025 release date.
