Patrick Stewart’s Picard Star Trek Series Will Be A “10 Hour Movie”

There hasn't been that many updates about CBS All Access' new Jean-Luc Picard Star Trek series, but now that the show's entering pre-production, Patrick Stewart gives fans a few major details about his new Star Trek project. Not only will the series feature a Captain Picard whose life has been "radically altered" after the destruction of the Romulus in the timeline of the 2009 Star Trek, but according to Stewart the show will take on a different style of narrative structure unlike Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Speaking in a brand new interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Stewart revealed that the first season of his Picard Star Trek series would run for ten hour-long episodes with a serialized over-arching story – one that deviates from the standalone, self-contained narrative style of older Star Trek shows.

According to Stewart, creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman is currently writing the script for the series along with his team, and everyone's hoping that the show makes it beyond one season.

"They are writing a ten-hour movie," Stewart explained during his interview with the publication. "We're hoping for more than one season."

CBS All Access has yet to release a synopsis for the series, however, word has it that the Star Trek Picard series will take place two decades after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002. Picard will no longer be commanding the enterprise in the show – something which some fans might have to come to terms with as the series goes along. After all, Picard was a well-loved character.

Stewart's Star Trek series has yet to receive a release date, but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
