Witness The Enterprise's End in Star Trek: Year Five

Fans are still disappointed over Paramount Pictures shelving Star Trek 4 since there is still a lot to explore in this franchise. Though we won't be able to see James T. Kirk continue his big five-year mission in this universe, IDW Publishing has decided to unveil how the original crew of the Enterprise would have ended their mission with Star Trek: Year Five.

Revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the series will focus on how each member of the Enterprise feels about returning to Earth after five years, uncertain about their future and what might come after. Since this is their final year, all the characters have changed and it should make for some really interesting dynamics between the crew.

There will be a rotating team of writers consisting of Brandon Easton, Jody Houser, Jim McCann and the team of Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing. The latter two will begin the comic's opening arc. Stephen Thompson will illustrate the series.

Honestly, this should be a treat for Star Trek fans since comics based on the franchise have usually been of quality. It will be interesting to see why the characters are so nervous about this venture and how they will react when they eventually reach Earth. There is a definite end to this series, though they didn't announce how many issues the story will last.

Star Trek: Year Five comes out this April.
