Parks and Rec Star Cast In Sony’s Venom Movie

Though initially met with a lot of fan backlash, Sony is positive in pushing forward with their Venom movie, and the cast is growing steadily. Michelle Willaims and Riz Ahmed are said to be onboard for the film already, and now we have news that Parks and Recreation star Jenny Slate is in talks for a role.

According to Variety, Slate is in talks to play a scientist in the film. No other details were revealed about her character, but I'm guessing she's going to be part of the team that's responsible for creating the Venom bio-suit.

Slate is probably best known for her role as Mona Lisa Saperstein a.k.a. Jean-Ralphio's crazy sister in Parks and Recreation. She's also voiced vice-mayor Bellwether in Zootopia as well as Harley Quinn in the LEGO Batman Movie.

Going back to Venom though, the movie is said to be based more on the Ultimate origin of the character in the sense that the symbiote suit will be artificially created in a lab as compared to being an alien from outer space. In the comics it was supposed to be a project between Peter Parker and Eddie Brock's fathers, but things went horribly wrong and by the end, Eddie becomes Venom.

We still have no specifics with the main story of the movie, but Carnage is said to be involved and a lot of people are guessing he's being played by Riz Ahmed. Let's hope Sony knows what it's doing by setting this movie apart from the MCU.

Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer and is slated to hit theaters Oct. 5, 2018.
