Padme Amidala Getting Her Own Star Wars Novel

Star Wars may not have a huge presence at SDCC 2018, but that doesn't mean we're not going to get some sweet reveals. On the novel side of the fandom, it's been announced that Padme Amidala is going to have her own novel titled Star Wars: Queen's Shadow.

Here's the official description:

Padmé Amidala served Naboo well as its queen, but now she is ready to begin a new chapter in her life. Then the newly-elected queen asks Padmé to serve Naboo in a new capacity–as its senator. With the help of her devoted handmaidens, Padmé must figure out how to navigate the treacherous waters of politics and forge a new identity beyond the queen's shadow.

The book will be written by E.K. Johnston who had written the novel Ahsoka for Lucasfilm as well. She had this to say about the book:

"It's the story of Padmé changing from a queen to senator and the person right behind her and all the other handmaidens behind Padmé."

Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, we've been getting stories on Leia and Ahsoka, but we haven't really gotten anything new on Padme yet. She does have a role in the new Thrawn book, but now we actually have a new story with her front and center.

Though a lot of people love Leia and Rey, Padme is admittedly the heroine for another generation of fans. Growing up with the prequels, I could honestly say I fell in love with Padme before appreciating the very spunky Leia when I got older.

Star Wars: Queen's Shadow comes out March 5, 2019.
