Pac-Man Live-Action Film In Development from Sonic the Hedeghog Producer

Video game adaptations have become a huge trend in Hollywood recently as studios are hungry for new franchises and they look for recognizable video game IPs that they can launch as their next tentpole projects. Now, it looks like another classic video game is yet again getting the live-action treatment and it's a title that you might not be expecting.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Pac-Man live-action film is in development from Bandai Namco Entertainment (the owner of the game) and Wayfarer Studios. There is no director, writer, or star attached to the project as of this moment.

The project is going to be based on an original idea from Sonic the Hedgehog associate producer Chuck Williams, who will also be involved as one of the producers of the potential film.

In case you're still not familiar with the game, which was first introduced in the U.S. in 1980, it is set in mazes where Pac-Man has to eat all the pellets while being chased by colorful ghosts. The game became an all-time video game classic and turned into a best-selling franchise that is still running up to this day.

Considering the concept of the game, it is hard to think how they are going to turn the video game into a live-action film unless they'll have to do a very different twist on the concept or do a unique approach that is far from the basic idea of the game.

For now, the project is still in the development phase so it's not guaranteed to head into production and it may take several more years before we get to see it on our screens.

While this idea might be baffling for most people, it is still curious to see how exactly they are going to approach the project and how they'll translate a pellet-eating yellow ball-like character to the live-action format.
