While the fourth season is still airing, the Overlord Holy Kingdom arc anime movie has received a new key visual ahead of its upcoming release.
The key visual features Ainz Ooal Gown at the top, with two principal characters in the foreground. These characters will be integral to the story of the upcoming movie.
This movie will adapt the Holy Kingdom arc in the light novel series. While it’s the third movie in the franchise, it is unique as, unlike the first two movies, this won’t be a compilation of the TV anime seasons.
Overlord Holy Kingdom arc was initially announced back in May 2021 alongside the season 4 reveal. It is directed by Naoyuki Ito and written by Yukie Sugawara. It is animated by Madhouse, the same studio that is working on the ongoing TV anime.
Aside from these, there’s not much info yet regarding the movie.
The anime’s first was released back in 2015, and it was followed up with seasons 2 and 3 which were released in 2018, with Overlord season 4 currently airing.
The series follows Momonga, a player of the MMORPG YGGDRASIL. The story opens with the YGGDRASIL about to shut down and with Momonga awaiting its eventual closure online.
When the game shuts down, Momonga finds himself still in the game, but he is now stuck in his skeletal in-game avatar. He also finds out that his guild Ainz Ooal Gown has been transported to another world, with the guild’s NPCs turned into actual living beings.
Momonga soon sets out to learn about this new world that he has found himself transported into.
Overlord Season 4 is currently airing, with new episodes releasing every week on Crunchyroll. Meanwhile, there’s no info yet on when the Overlord Holy Kingdom arc film will be released.
