Original Venom Director Reveals Why He Isn't Directing Venom 2

The first Venom movie seems to be in the same vein as Suicide Squad in that critics hated it but viewers seemed to love it. I personally think the movie is a hot mess that has a couple of good scenes, like that moment when Tom Hardy jumped into a tank full of live lobsters and started eating one, but that's just me. Anyway, Venom director Ruben Fleischer won't be returning for Venom 2 and here's why.

Speaking with ReelBlend, Fleischer revealed that he was busy directing Zombieland: Double Tap so Sony went on and hired Andy Serkis to direct the symbiote-filled sequel. The director thinks that Serkis, Tom Hardy, and everyone else has already started shooting Venom 2, so that's why Fleischer isn't returning.

His full explanation goes, "I was busy getting this movie done. I think they're already shooting that film. And I just finished this a couple weeks ago. So the schedule didn't allow it."

Considering how unproven Serkis is as a director, we'll have to wait and see if the sequel is a big improvement or more of the same. Most of us just don't want Venom 2 to be worse, which shouldn't be a hard task. Seriously, no matter how you feel about the original Venom movie, it won't take much to be a better sequel.

Venom 2 will reportedly come out on October 2, 2020.
