Original Daredevil Showrunner's Pitch for Asian-American Iron Fist was Turned Down by Marvel Television

There is little doubt that Finn Jones did a great job at playing Danny Rand in Iron Fist. However, it looks like there were other plans for the character even before the Game of Thrones actor was cast for the role. It has just been revealed that original Daredevil showrunner Doug Petrie had pitched for an Asian-American version of Iron Fist but it was ultimately turned down by Marvel Television.

Daredevil actor Tommy Walker recently took part in a special panel for #SaveDaredevilCon along with his former co-stars Peter Shinkoda and Geoffrey Cantor. Interestingly, Walker shared how Petrie had suggested a multiracial Danny Rand but the idea was rejected by the studio.

"A very good friend of mine Doug Petrie, the showrunner of Season 2 of Daredevil, he was on Season 1 as you know and then an executive producer on Defenders. I think I can say this much safely that man came up with some brilliant pitches for Iron Fist early on before Iron Fist was well into production…but they were along those lines, very very thoughtful very progressive for the time," Walker said.

This isn't the only instance during the panel where the Daredevil cast pointed out how Marvel Television downplayed the casting of Asians in the shows. It was previously reported that Shinkoda stated how Jeph Loeb had told writers to cut back on the storylines of Asian characters Nobu and Madame Gao.

Do you think Iron Fist would have been better if the character was Asian-American or multiracial? Sound off in the comments below.
