Original Blade Star Wesley Snipes Shares Advice for Mahershala Ali: "Enjoy It While It Lasts"

It was during the San Diego Comic-Con event in 2019 when Marvel Studios announced that Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is playing the role of Blade in the MCU and fans have been looking forward to seeing his take on the iconic daywalker. Recently, he finally made his debut in Eternals through an off-screen voice appearance in the film's post-credits scene.

Fans have been wondering about what the original Blade, Wesley Snipes, thinks about the casting. In a recent interview with journalist Kevin Polowky, the actor revealed that he has already spoken with Ali about the role. He said, "We spoke. The issue of him being cast wasn't between us. That was business. I'm cool with it. I don't walk around as Blade, so I'm not attached to the character like that. I feel no emotional loss. Zero. I'm happy that he's been recast and more than likely will do a great job."

When asked if he has any advice that he can give to Ali, he responded, "Make sure you're in shape, man. Make sure you're in shape. Try not to get hurt. The demands of action movies, you've gotta be an elite athlete and be well-conditioned to survive it and to avoid injury. And enjoy it while it lasts."

It is great to hear that Snipes has a positive reaction to Ali's casting on the role that he played before. He also gave very helpful advice to his successor and he is right that it would be a physically demanding role for him just like in any other superhero role. If there's any other person in the world that knows what it feels like to step into the shoes of the daywalker, it's him.

Snipes gave an iconic performance as Blade in the three films where he played him and Ali has huge shoes to fill as he steps into the role in live-action soon. Fans are definitely looking forward to seeing his solo film and, given what we've seen in his previous works, there's no doubt that Ali will do a great job playing the role.

The solo Blade film is still in the works. Bassam Tariq is set to direct the film, with production reportedly set to begin next year. Marvel Studios hasn't announced a release window yet, but it will be part of a future MCU phase.
