Netflix’s Onmyoji anime is a highly anticipated adaptation of Baku Yumemakura’s celebrated novel series.

It promises to weave together timeless characters and stories from Japanese mythology and present them with a refreshing take on anime.

In it, we follow the story of Abe Seimei and Minamoto Hiromasa as they exorcise evil spirits during Japan's Heian Period.

Abe Seimei is a legendary onmyoji, someone who specializes in magic and divination. As such, he is tasked with preserving peace using his supernatural gifts.

However, he is mostly indifferent to people and matters that are outside of his responsibilities.

One day, he is approached by Minamoto Hiromasa, a well-meaning noble who seeks his help to investigate the strange occurrences in ancient Kyoto.

Hiromasa is a passionate individual who cannot stand idly by when he senses something is wrong.

The two are an unlikely duo, but they eventually join forces to uncover the city’s mysterious events. Together, they fight the demons that haunt the city and threaten its people.

The anime will bring to life Baku Yumemakura's Onmyoji series, which was published by Bungeishunju in 1986 as a collection of historical fantasy short stories.

From 1993 to 2005, Reiko Okano adapted the series into a manga, and it has also inspired several live-action adaptations and films.

This is the first time that the series is getting the anime adaptation treatment, so fans of the original series should check out all the anime's episodes on Netflix as soon as possible!
