Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 has introduced a bunch of new characters, from enemies to allies and everything in between. But despite these big introductions, the show has yet to cast an important character.

Titled One Piece: Into the Grand Line, the latest season featured surprise cameos from Brook and Sabo.

But while Brook seems to have his official actor played by Martial T. Batchamen, Sabo has yet to be cast.

Brook made a surprise appearance in One Piece Season 2 Episode 2, in a flashback. He appeared as a member of the Rumbar Pirates alongside Laboon, playing the violin and singing before his transformation into a skeleton.

According to producer Becky Clements, Martial T. Batchamen was cast for the role with the hope that he would return in future seasons.

However, when asked about the actor who played Sabo, Clements confirmed it was a “stand-in,” similar to the Smoker tease from the Season 1 finale.

“It was the surprise of, ‘Oh my God – Sabo!’ You know, with him last stepping through the door,” she told IGN.

Sabo made a cameo in the Season 2 premiere, appearing briefly in shadow alongside Monkey D. Dragon, who saved Luffy from Smoker.

This appearance confirmed a long-time fan theory that Sabo was present during the events in Loguetown.

Sabo

After making a brief cameo in One Piece Season 2, Sabo is expected to appear in the Netflix series in Season 3 or later.

Following the adaptation of the Loguetown and Drum Island arcs, the next season is expected to cover the Alabasta Arc, where the Straw Hat Pirates help Princess Vivi save her kingdom from the criminal organization Baroque Works.

In the manga, Sabo doesn’t appear until the Dressrosa Arc, the 26th story arc in Eiichiro Oda’s series.

Here, he reenters Luffy’s life by rescuing him and other allies. Sabo grew up with Luffy and Ace in Goa Kingdom, swore brotherhood with them, and shared their dream of adventure.

After a World Noble attack, Sabo was presumed dead. Sure, he survived, but temporarily lost his memory of Luffy, which he later regained when he joined the Revolutionary Army.

He eventually became Monkey D. Dragon’s Chief of Staff, actively resisting the World Government, explaining why Dragon saved Luffy during his battle with Smoker in Loguetown.

Since the Alabasta Arc is only the manga’s 13th story arc, it may still be some time before fans see Sabo as an official, fully integrated character in Netflix’s One Piece.
