The Da Vinci Book of the Year Rankings for 2023 has finally been released, and it includes the magazine’s selection of the top 30 manga of the year. In the Da Vinci 2023 manga rankings, One Piece and Oshi no Ko were part of the top five.
Interestingly, the first two spots are taken by manga titles that readers outside of Japan likely won’t be familiar with.
This isn’t only the case for the top two, though. Around half of the rankings’ top ten selection consists of lesser-known titles, which is a far cry from last year’s result.
One Piece and Oshi no Ko Manga Honored in Da Vinci Rankings
This year, One Piece is once again in the top five. Its number 3 ranking for 2023 means it slipped down one place as it had the second spot last year, just behind Tatsuya Endo’s Spy x Family.
The series’ continued recommendation by Da Vinci is no surprise given One Piece continues to deliver great chapters, especially in the ongoing Egghead arc.
Taking the fifth spot is Oshi no Ko, the manga that got a huge increase in popularity thanks to the anime adaptation by Doga Kobo in Spring 23.
Oshi no Ko’s place on the ranking this year is a huge leap as it was only in the 25th spot in 2022. This leap makes sense given the series’ rise and its exciting developments in the current arc.

Da Vinci Rankings’ Top Two Manga Are Surprising Picks
Last year saw Spy x Family take the top spot. Now, though, the number 1 manga is Ikoku Nikki by Tomoko Yamashita. This is a josei manga serialized from June 2017 to June 2023.
Here is the top 10 list in the Da Vinci Rankings:
- Ikoku Nikki by Tomoko Yamashita
- Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta by Sumiko Arai
- One Piece by Eiichiro Oda
- Tsuyukusa Natsuko no Issho by Miri Masuda
- Oshi no Ko by Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari
- March Comes in Like a Lion by Chica Umino
- Onna no Sono no Hoshi by Yama Wayama
- Detective Conan by Gosho Aoyama
- Skip and Loafer by Misaki Takamatsu
- Zeikin de Katta Hon by Zuino and Kei Kayama
Taking second place is Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta (The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All in English). This is a shojo series that began only in April this year and is serialized in Pixiv Comic.
The top two titles are both available officially in Japan only. Given that they got top honors in the Da Vinci Rankings, a North American publisher may pick them up for a US release soon.
