One Piece Odyssey JRPG Video Game Announced

There were a lot of major updates from One Piece today but there is little doubt that they saved the best for last! The new JRPG video game One Piece Odyssey has just been announced along with an awesome first trailer and cool details from the producer!

The announcement was dropped during the special One Piece livestream where all the major news were shared. In addition to providing news about the manga, anime film, card game, and live-action series, it was confirmed that the franchise has something truly huge for its 25th anniversary this year. That's when the official teaser for One Piece Odyssey was revealed. Check it out below.

The new game will be published by Bandai Namco Entertainment with Katsuaki Tsuzuki serving as producer. According to Tsuzuki, the upcoming title is "an epic drama adventure which both One Piece fans and JRPG fans can experience and enjoy."

The new story was written by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda and will feature several playable characters including Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Frankie, and Brook.

The official description for One Piece Odyssey reads as follows:

"During their voyage, the Straw Hats, led by Monkey D. Luffy are swallowed by a huge storm at sea. They end up on a mysterious island full of nature amidst the storm and become separated from each other.

"The crew set outs on a new adventurous journey filled with wonders of a raging nature, powerful enemies, and strange encounters with island locals."

This certainly explains the original clue that was dropped leading up to the special livestream event. In the image, a straw hat was shown on the shore while Sunny appeared to be sinking. Needless to say, being able to play as one of the beloved characters is the perfect way to celebrate One Piece's 25th anniversary this year.

One Piece Odyssey will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox, and PC. The title has not yet been given an official release date but will be dropped later in 2022.
