One Piece Live-Action Series Adds Yellowjackets Star as Shanks


Monkey D. Luffy's childhood hero is joining the One Piece live-action series! It has just been confirmed that Red-Haired Shanks will appear in the highly anticipated Netflix show and the beloved character will be played by Yellowjackets star Peter Gadiot!

The announcement was shared on the One Piece news livestream where all the major updates were being dropped. After confirming the cast that has been previously announced, it was revealed that a new character will be added to the series. First, Shanks' image was shown before the live-action actor was officially announced. Check out the special video reveal of the new cast member below.

Peter Gadiot will play Shanks, a legendary and powerful pirate in the Grand Line who is the captain of the Red Haired Pirates and would later become one of the Four Emperors in the second half of the Grand Line. He also happens to be Luffy's childhood hero who is a former member of Gol D. Roger's Crew and is an all-around good guy so his arrival in the One Piece live-action series is certainly a welcome one.

Gadiot has appeared in numerous TV shows including Queen of the South and Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. He famously played Mister Mxyzptlk in the second season of Supergirl before landing the role of Adam in Yellowjackets. Needless to say, he is a welcome addition to the One Piece series.

The Netflix show will star Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Additional cast members include Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, Jeff Ward as Buggy, Vincent Regan as Garth, and Aidan Scott as Helmeppo.
