One Piece: Mackenyu Shares Relatable Reaction to Live-Action Going Merry in Netflix Series

There is little doubt that the upcoming live-action One Piece adaptation is one of the most highly anticipated shows on Netflix right now. So it's no surprise that even the cast and crew of the new series couldn't help but geek out whenever they went to work. Mackenyu Arata shared his initial reaction to being on the real Going Merry and it's absolutely relatable.

Mackenyu Hypes Up Netflix's One Piece Live-Action Series

Mackenyu Arata was interviewed by Vogue Man Hongkong where he discussed his upcoming projects including One Piece (via Twitter). The Knights of the Zodiac star confirmed his eagerness to join the Netflix show because "One Piece is an anime that every Japanese kid knows".

Arata then shared what it was like when he finally began to shoot on the live-action version of the Going Merry, the Straw Hats Pirates' ship.

"When I stepped aboard the Going Merry, I can’t wait to show it off to all my friends," he admitted with a laugh. "It was awesome and hopefully it'll be a special experience for the fans."

"We brought One Piece to life and we hope you'll enjoy it too," Arata concluded.

We're not surprised that Mackenyu was thrilled to be a part of the One Piece series. After all, playing a character as important as Roronoa Zoro is a great privilege for any actor and there is little doubt that Arata put in all the hard work to portray the swordsman properly. With that in mind, we can't wait to see Mackenyu as Zoro later this year.

One Piece will also star Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Vinsmoke Sanji. The first season of the series is expected to adapt the first chapters of Eiichiro Oda's famous manga.

For now, One Piece has not yet been given an official release date but is already expected to premiere on Netflix in 2023.
