The long wait is finally over. The first trailer for Netflix's live-action One Piece series has just been dropped and it offers a preview of the Straw Hats Pirates in action. Not surprisingly, people are already loving Mackenyu's take on Roronoa Zoro and his three-sword fighting style.
One Piece Live-Action Series Drops Exciting First Trailer
The teaser for One Piece immediately introduces us to Monkey D. Luffy who has a big dream: He wants to be the King of the Pirates. However, he needs a loyal crew and Luffy immediately recruits the captive Zoro, who isn't exactly impressed.
Although it looks like Luffy is set to fail, it is quickly revealed that Zoro agreed to join him. He also gets a second crew member in Nami who agrees with Zoro about one thing: they are not a crew.
We get amazing glimpses of Zoro in action, wielding three swords to take on an enemy. There are also awesome shots of Usopp and Sanji who are also ready for a fight.
There is so much to unpack in the 90-second teaser but there's one thing that already has people talking. There's a brief shot of Red-Haired Shanks, who will be played by Peter Gadiot in the series.
Although we didn't get a lot of footage in the teaser, there is little doubt that everything has been approved by the creator himself. It was previously confirmed by mangaka Eiichiro Oda that the series will only move forward once he is fully satisfied.
One Piece will star Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Vinsmoke Sanji. The main cast was present at TUDUM 2023: A Global Fan Event in Brazil.
The event would be the first public appearance for the main cast since they were announced to join the live-action series.
One Piece will premiere on Netflix on August 31, 2023.
