Despite the changes that Oda mentioned, it seems that many fans are cautiously optimistic about the show based on the new trailer.

Earlier this year, Netflix finally shared some teasers for the One Piece live-action series. And recently at TUDUM in Brazil, Netflix released the first official teaser for the show.

While the teaser already featured lots of interesting clips, it was still on the shorter side. But now, Netflix released the official trailer, and what makes it official is that it’s a much more expansive look at the series.

Specifically, the trailer showcases more action-packed clips from the series, and it shows more of the Straw Hat Crew’s interactions. Check it out here:

In the latest trailer, fans are given lots of brand-new footage, including locations that are surely familiar to fans such as Baratie and Arlong Park.

The trailer also shows a lot of familiar faces aside from the Straw Hats, including Garp, Shanks, Arlong, and more.

While the trailer seems to feature moments that are taken straight out of the manga and anime, it seems that there will be some noticeable story changes here. At least, that’s what Eiichiro Oda said in his new letter.

To coincide with the official trailer, creator Eiichiro Oda shared a new letter addressed to fans eagerly awaiting or concerned about the series.

In the letter, Oda said that there were “no compromises” in the upcoming series, meaning it has his seal of approval. Though he did mention that fans may notice some changes in the story.

You can read the full letter here:

Near the end, Oda said that he is fully supportive of the live-action series’ creators and that “if by chance some people have some gripes, [he’ll] be there to receive them together” with the show’s staff.

Hopefully, though, the series does live up to the expectations of One Piece fans, lest it gets criticized like what happened to the Cowboy Bebop live-action.

The One Piece live-action series will be released on Netflix worldwide on August 31, 2023.
