The title of One Piece Chapter 1096 is Kumachi, and it features Zoro upset over losing a game of musical chairs to a pack of chihuahuas in the forest.
The flashback at God Valley continues, as the population eradication tournament is about to begin with 10,000 civilians branded like rabbits on the run for their lives.
There were 150 rare rabbits, not to mention 13 super rare ones that the participants needed to hunt down to gain points.
Kong was on a Den Den Mushi with Garp, who was on vacation. He wanted Garp to go to God Valley to protect the Celestial Dragons, but also because Roger was on the move.
At God Valley, West Blue, Ivankov tries to encourage his fellow slaves to focus on escaping altogether rather than trying to survive the full three weeks until the end of the murder festival.
In the previous hunts, there were exactly zero survivors, which means they will never win if they all decide to play the rigged game.
A fish man bit Ivankov’s handcuffs to free him. Jinny, on the other hand, claims that the tournament prizes, which were located in the center of the island, will be their key to escape.
One of the prizes is a devil fruit that allows its user to transform into an Azure Dragon, while the other one is the Paw Paw Fruit, which can be used to blast oneself and others to distant lands.
Jinny reveals that she was a pro-thief and wiretapper who also leaked the said information to the outside world.
She believes that her plan with Ivankov needs plenty of decoys running around the island, especially because there are only a dozen of them.
Kuma raises his hands, saying that he can help Jinny and Ivankov’s plan. He asserts that his size and bulkiness will help him survive longer than most of the slaves.
Jinny replies that she hates to see someone die for the sake of the plan, whereas Ivankov vows not to allow any of his comrades to be killed, for they’ll escape God Valley together.
The hunt begins, and Figarling quickly gains 10,000 points, as if his strategy were to target the high-value rabbits.
The Rocks Pirates arrive off the east coast of God Valley to the surprise of the Marines, who were being swarmed by the most notorious pirates in the world.
They successfully made landfall, angering the Celestial Dragons, who worried about their safety.
There are more fearsome pirates flooding in from all directions on the island as if the poverty eradication tournament were not a top-secret event.
The Roger Pirates docked on the west coast, making it a danger zone. Garling orders the marines to pull back from the sea to protect the Celestial Dragons. He also asks the god’s knights to stand ready to fight.
Garp, along with his men, arrived in time to pursue the Roger Pirates. It’s absolute mayhem in God Valley, much to Ivankov’s delight.
Ivankov and Kuma easily manage to get their hands on the tournament’s prizes while everyone is busy fighting each other.
As Ivankov was about to eat one of the devil fruits, Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom) pummeled him to the ground. Ivankov screams at Kuma, asking him to eat the devil fruit so they can manage to get a single person off the island alive.
Right after Kuma ate the devil fruit, St. Jaygarcia Saturn, who’s surrounded by dark flames and lightning effects, put him on the floor.
Saturn remarks that Kuma can either live as a slave or die since that’s what the tides of time have decided for a Buccaneer like him.
Kuma wonders if Saturn is someone important since he doesn’t understand how someone can be born to be more or less important. Saturn argues that if Kuma was born to be a slave, then there’s no point in him being born at all.
Kuma answers that if he has some kind of power, he’ll use it to save as many people as he possibly can, just like Nika. His answer disgusts Saturn, who says that it’s precisely why Kuma’s people needed to be erased.
In the Kingdom of Sorbet at South Blue, after the God Valley incident, Ivankov complains about Morgans reporting nothing but Garp’s heroism.
In the end, they still have no idea what happened on the island after Kuma saved them. Ivankov compliments Kuma, saying that his hands can bless people with freedom like they were hands of liberation.
While Ivankov aims to set sail and bask in his freedom, Jinny decides to stay with Kuma at the church where he is residing to think about what she’s going to do with her life.
Jinny and Kuma start living together, selling logs to earn money. Kuma often gets bullied because of his size, but Jinny always stands up for him.
She even beat two of Kuma’s bullies, but Kuma decided to use his devil fruit abilities to heal them and make the pain go away.
Before the chapter ends, Jinny can be seen singing her heart out, calling Kuma Kumachi. They also shared a full meal while bawling their eyes out.
