One Piece Chapter 1,043 Recap
Luffy gets distracted and gets hit by Kaido. He loses consciousness, and Momonosuke notices that he doesn't sense Luffy's voice anymore. He kills the CP0 boss and returns to the castle.
Kaido announces Luffy's death, and he wants Momonosuke to surrender. Many take it badly — Kid and Law begin to lose hope while Chopper starts crying. However, Nami doesn't believe it and calls him a liar.
Kaido attacks Nami, but Marco defends her. He is visibly angry and tells everyone the battle isn't finished until he faces Momonosuke.
Nevertheless, the fighting and escaping continue. Momonosuke contemplates surrendering, but Yamato convinces him not to. Zunesha speaks to Momonosuke, saying they can hear the Drums of Liberation. Joy Boy is back.

One Piece Chapter 1,044 Spoilers, Summary
Luffy is confused since he can move despite losing the fight. Black lightning bolts seem to emerge out of his body.
Zunesha hasn't moved. Momonosuke looks over at Onigashima's roof and wonders if Luffy is the Joy Boy Zunesha was referring to.
Sanji, Kid, Law, Hyogoro, and Marco begin to sense the return of Luffy's presence. Marco informs Nami and Otama about it.
Meanwhile, at Marijoa, the Five Elders are still discussing the unfolding situation at Wano. One of them mentions that angering Kaido and losing a CP0 agent was worth it if they consider what might happen.
They talk about how the World Government always attempts to keep the Gum-Gum Fruit within their grasp, but it somehow keeps escaping. It's been 800 years, and one of the Elders isn't surprised, knowing that Zoan Devil Fruits seem to have their own minds.
It turns out that the other name of the Gum-Gum Fruit is Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Zoan: Model Nika. The page reveals Luffy's shadow, laughing and looking similar to Nika's shadow.
Nika is the Sun God, also known as the Warrior of Liberation. With his body possessing rubber-like properties, he can fight freely and make people smile.
Apparently, awakening the Devil Fruit makes it even more powerful. The Five Elders say its power is ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Orochi still can't move. He tries to get on Hiyori's good side so he can escape. She remembers what her father had to go through, having to endure the pain on his own.
Hiyori snaps and screams at Orochi while crying. A small version of Kanjuro's flame monster shows up. Orochi commands it to burn Hiyori, but it comes for Orochi instead.
Back at the rooftop, Luffy feels ecstatic and calls his current state Gear Five. On the Performance Floor, a blast of Conqueror's Haki leaves a lot of Kaido's men unconscious. Luffy's giant arm grabs Kaido and starts spinning him around.
Kaido attacks with Bolo Breath, surprising Luffy. He turns the ground into rubber and returns Kaido's attack back at him. There are slight changes in Luffy's appearance.
Kaido apologizes for what happened earlier, and Luffy accepts. He says it's time to end the battle.
