Ohio Gets Its Own Pokemon Go Event This Month

Earlier this month, Pokemon Go organized a grand event in Japan, dropping Mewtwo in Yokohama for trainers to catch as the company announced its plans to release the Psychic Legendary Pokemon across the globe.

Now, it looks like its Ohio's turn to get its own Pokemon Go event this year with Comicbook reporting an announcement from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation about a new event in Akron sponsored by Pokemon Go.

Taking place next week on August 26 and 27, the new Pokemon Go event is to run along with the freshmen orientation period of the University of Akron. Apparently the company thinks that having a Pokemon Go event will help new students create "lasting connections" with the people in the city, and Niantic is planning to increase the number of temporary PokeStops in the downtown area of Akron with a dense collection of stops connecting the University campus to downtown attractions.

The event will also host a number of "live" activities that include drawing sessions, photo opportunities, walking tours, scavenger hunts, live music, vendor areas and a whole lot more. The only thing missing in the event are special surprises and exclusive Pokemon – unlike the Pikachu Outbreak Festival and the Pokemon Go Fest, this one in Ohio's pretty ordinary.

Atleast it's scheduled a few days before the Legendary Birds leave the augmented reality gaming app. That's a good consolation. And who knows, there might be a few surprises anyway. Let's wait and see.
